I got these little bright rays of sunshine this week from my precious husband. I thought of several friends who would love them too. They are so happy and orange. What a treat!
Growing up, I often said "I wished I had a corner," meaning I wanted a little hideaway where I could get alone and just BE. It got to be kind of a joke in the family, but they understood what I meant - a spot just for me; to read, journal, garden, enjoy music, meditate on life, or pray. The "corner" I longed for wasn't even an actual place, but more, the opportunity to do those things I love. So, welcome and see what is going on in our family's corner!

Just because

A special memory pre-baby brother
We had a neat opportunity the other night to go to the mall as a family. I had really wanted to do something special with the kids before Elijah comes, to treat them as a "just because we love you" kind of moment. When we adopted Isaac, we took him to pick out his first Build-a-Bear, and he chose Kitty, and we've enjoyed a few other sweet animal babies from there over the years since. Autumn is like an aunt to the kids, and enjoys visiting BABW with us, so we were glad to have her along.
There was a little confusion once we got there about what our actual plan was, but we figured out to just do what the kids preferred. My goal had been for them to make a "baby" animal of their own at Build-a-Bear Workshop, before I have the baby. Well, the amazing display of Clarice and Rudolph at the entrance shot that idea out of consideration when Abi noticed them. Though I hate parts of that old Rudolph movie, I like Rudolph and Clarice, and Abi does too. She quickly fell in love and said she knew exactly what she wanted to make. Though it wasn't the "baby" I had thought she'd pick, I realized it really didn't matter - the point was to do something special for each of them, not because they'd earned it, not what I would pick, or anything. So, we decided that was fine, and she was thrilled. Other customers weren't as happy, since she was the last reindeer left and many more folks were wanting them as they saw ours.
Isaac, being his usual agreeable self with this type thing, decided on the sweet baby blue bear and even named him "Elijah Bear." It was absolutely precious watching him pick out a carrier to put him in (he got to choose an accessory since his "baby" was so much cheaper than Abi's), and he's worn him around a good bit this week. Autumn bought them a pack of cloth diapers there too, so they can practice changing the non-stinky version when I have to do the real thing later on. They found this to be hilarious. You know how funny poop and diapers are!
Anyway, it was a sweet time together, and we totally enjoyed it, though it nearly wore Mama out, who isn't used to standing for an hour anymore. It was a hard evening afterwards with contractions and all, but worth it.
