Mercies New

Nichole Nordeman's CD was next in my player after I finished the last post. How cool is God to let me hear this song right now? It is so unusual that I don't recall ever hearing it before, when I've meditated a million times this year on the verses from Lamentations 3:21-23 -

21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

After times like today's service where I start to wallow in guilt and regret over the things I haven't done right, or opportunities missed, or take on hurt needlessly over how other believers disappoint me, not thinking of how I disappoint them, and more importantly, my Father, daily; it's so good to remember that thankfully, I have hope, in Him.

Is it fair to say I was lured away
by endless distractions and lovelier attractions then?
Or fairer still, my own free will
Is the better one to blame for this familiar mess I've made

So I would understand if You were out of patience
And I would understand if I were out of chances

Chorus:

But Your mercies are new every morning
So let me wake with the dawn
And when the music is through, or so it seems to be
Let me sing a new song
Old things gone
Everyday is true - You make all Your mercies new

The distance left between east and west
Is how far You would go to forgive the debt I owe
And thrown into the sea the wicked ways of me
Will never have a chance to walk back on the sand

So I would understand if You would make me pay
And I would understand lying in the bed I made again

Chorus

Up comes the sun on everyone of us
Gone, gone, gone the guilt and shame that knew your name

Oh, sweet friend,

These words were this very night a soothing balm to a bruised an wounded soul! God used you to give these precious words of TRUTH and GRACE to me! How I love you both!
