A sunny surprise

I worked really hard this spring in the bed around my birdfeeders, planting zinnia and cosmos seed. I wanted to it to be colorful and attractive to the butterflies and birds that visit us. Check out what's blooming there.

Actually, these sunflowers aren't just growing, they're THRIVING. I mean, a lot of them are taller than I am. And, I didn't plant sunflowers. Apparently, the birds who devour the sunflower seed I put in the feeders, ate, fertilized, and pooped a full garden for us. How nice of them, huh?

The irony of this whole thing is not lost on me. I fancy myself as quite the gardener. My friends admire my green thumbs, and the ease at which I grow healthy plants, flowers and vegetables. I just have to laugh at my pitiful attempt to plant some flowers, and then God's showing off through bird poop and blowing my measly effort away. Pretty funny.

This last photo is courtesy of my neighbor Scott and his fancy new camera. :-)

Those are amazing! I need to drive by your house more often to take a peek. My birdfeeders just leave a pile of sunflower seeds below them where the little birds throw them away. No green in this thumb!
