This beautiful boy turns four tomorrow. I am amazed when I look at him and remember his birth so clearly and here he is, FOUR whole years later. Elijah is such a miracle in so many ways. That's another blog entirely, though, if you ever want to read his story. Go to: ourcorner-greatexpectations.blogspot.com. He has completely added to our family in so many beautiful ways. The joy he brings us -- the quirky humor at such a young age - the passionate way he loves -- all just keep me in awe.
There are sayings of this boy I could quote daily that just crack us up. Last week one was, "Mom, what are you doing?" as I pulled out a white hair. I told him, and said I had to pull it out because I'm not old. He responded, "Nooo! You're not old! You're new!"
He tells folks he loves them and really, really does, without reservation. He hugs fiercely. He often hurts us when he attacks and kisses, because he is so loving and snuggly and affectionate. This child also does NOT have volume control. He is loud, loud, loud. Gracious, he is full of life and cuteness. He is encouraging and has positive words to share with us so much. He often tells me at meals, "You're the best cooker, Mom!" or compliments me, or how the house is decorated. Speaking of decor, Elijah loves to help decorate and make things beautiful for special occasions and holidays. He is like his Mama in that way, and it's so fun. We love the outdoors too, and he is quick to offer help with gardening or other physical labor outside. Many times, the work is too difficult for him, but he will not admit it. He is so willing to help and that's a quality I love about him.
Elijah adores big brother Isaac, and though they have struggled to find common ground many days, with a 9 year age difference between them, the fights have lessened lately, and it is so cool to see them playing and cooperating. Abigail and Elijah are close, and I completely had to share him with her when he was born. She'd carry him in the sling and really mothered him so well. Owen is his best friend and buddy and E's been a precious big brother to him.
We are so amazed at the children God has given us. They are each unique blessings and humble us with their lives, entrusted to us for now. A song I love that comes to mind when I think of Elijah is so sappy and sweet, and you should listen to it if you never have. It makes me cry everytime, but the chorus especially sums up how I feel about our long awaited baby boy.
