The Vines' Zoo

Just thought it might be fun to post photos of our menagerie of animals. We really enjoy our sweet pets and they provide such hours of entertainment and education. And, being homeschoolers, we seem to feel called to be weird and have a couple of reptiles too.
Sheila, our Australian blue-tongued skink is our newest addition. She is so sweet - she really has a personality and is super friendly. I got her from a girl in my freecycle group, and we were expecting a blue tailed skink (very different and much smaller), but she's been a pleasant surprise! (Just goes to show you should really, carefully, read emails). Here she is, hanging out in her new reptile hammock. How funny is that?
This photo is from our Valentine's card last year. Our big bunnies rescued from the Birmingham Humane Society, Bo and Daisy, are fluffy and cuddly, when they aren't kicking like crazy to get out of our arms.

Sugar is our precious chocolate lab, and is such a good girl. Here she is snuggling on her blanket in the bathroom, where she spends these cold winter nights.

Isaac's little red-eared slider, Squirt, came from the Helena Elementary Spring Fling almost 4 years ago. Isaac spent birthday money from Grandpa on him.

Then there are the oldest members of the zoo, Merlin and Magic, my 11 year old cats, who were both strays I rescued as tiny kittens. Here's Abi with Magic, and Merlin is on my bed tonight, doing the 3 hour bath thing.

Isaac and Abigail are pretty good about helping care for the animals, and are eager to prove they can be trusted with all of them, since we greatly desire more, and larger, pets (i.e. horses and donkeys) someday on the "dream farm". :-)

Here's to a crazy amount of animals!!!! I guess if times get tough, we could get together and start the Shelby County Zoo!

By the way, I love the linens from James. He is a jewel. I think I would keep him if I were you.

Don't worry - he's going to have to stick around because I'm not letting him get away!

The boys would love to visit your zoo, but we're (me and D) are not anxious to have one at our house -- we'll just stick with being city slickers. ;)

After the mouse I found in E's room I am even more against caged animals than I was before. Not my thing!

OK. I like the rabbits and you know my house is full of cats and dogs, but a lizard?!? This is just a little much!

It would be interesting to see how my hounds would react!

Oh, I love this post!! I always imagined myself with alot of animals when I was younger. We were always bringing an assortment home to my parents.
After I had three boys, however, I have put that dream aside. I realized, in my adult life, how much care require, and how expensive they are!
We're down to only one cat these days.(his "wife" died over the holidays). We gave our dog to my brother last year after she chewed a hole in my carpet, and our hermit crab died after only 6 mos. I'm starting to think we're not good at pets. I do love them though! Your's are all so cute and I love all of their names!!

Welcome!
