If I Stand

Today my Dad sent me an email from his best friend, a precious, godly man, who sang in our wedding. He was quoting an excerpt by my favorite songwriter of all time and his words were so timely. As we've been studying Daniel, and the whole Babylonian mentality that is so prevalent in our culture today, I'm just so aware of how easy it is to be sucked into thinking the way this world does--and not at all how God does. Some of these lyrics really hit me so I put them in bold. Also, it's another reminder, we shouldn't get so comfortable here - this is not our home. So, when I say repeatedly that I am ready to go to heaven, and some of my friends think I'm crazy, this is what I mean. I just pray we'll stand strong while we're still here!

If I Stand
Rich Mullins

There's more that rises in the morning than the sun
And more that shines in the night than just the moon
There's more than just this fire here that keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger than this room

And there's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs that I can sing
Stuff of Earth competes for the allegiance
I owe only to the Giver of all good things

So if I stand, let me stand on the promise that you will pull me through
And if I can't, let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
So if I sing, let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep, let it be as a man who is longing for his home

And there's more that dances on the prairies than the wind
And more that pulses in the ocean than the tide
There's a love that's fiercer than the love between friends
More gentle than a mother's when her baby's at her side

And there's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs that I can sing
The stuff of Earth competes for the allegiance
I owe only to the Giver of all good things

So if I stand, let me stand on the promise that You will pull me through
And if I can't, let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
And if I sing, let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep, let it be as a man who is longing for his home

So if I stand, let me stand on the promise You will pull me through
And if I can't, let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
And if I sing, let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep, let it be as a man who is longing for his home

And if I weep, let it be as a man who is longing for his home

Oh, you have no idea how much Matt & I love Rich Mullins. I think we own everyhting he ever did. This is a great song. And you are such a neat girl, I must say. Your blogs always speak encouragement into my life. I totally get what you're saying about being ready for heaven. For me, it's a longing to have things the way they were created to be...without the infection of sin.
Thanks for the blog.

Thanks for sharing ... it's neat to enjoy the new meaning that an "oldie" can bring because of what God is teaching me right now.

We have listened to this song several times over the past few days. Every time it has struck me the same way. I think God is speaking...

I know, Every time I read a sad blog or talk to a friend who's going through a hard time all I want to say is "hurry up God". I know His patience is so good, but oh I can NOT wait to be in His presence!

I can't say that I remember ever hearing this song before but I really want to now! What amazing words! I absolutely love the chorus. I need to get a cd of all of your favorites because I know I would be blessed by them all. Thank you for aways sharing such wonderful words of wisdom and words of God. I am so happy and blessed to have a friend in you!

I miss him still. He had such an incredible gift and he lived what he believed. I'm going to have a cup of coffe with him when I get to heaven.:)
