Another Song

Lately, I don't always have the words for how I feel, and then God sends a song to encourage me or at least help me process what I'm feeling. Here is a great one today that I read on the facebook page of a late professor of ours who died this past year. The lyrics are perfect in so many ways.

I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
and wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day.
...But once again, I say amen, and it's still raining.
And as the thunder rolls, I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls, I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away...

Chorus:
And I'll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You and raised me up again
My strength is almost gone, how can I carry on
if I can't find You
And as the thunder rolls, I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away...

Chorus

I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth

I am praying for you. I love you. I just read a great sermon about the Psalms with their crazy swings in emotions, that they are God's way of giving us some words for the times when we have none. That they show how we can both be faithfully confident and feel totally abandoned at the same time. It really touched my heart. I have been thinking about suffering a lot lately, and I am beginning to see that, sure there are all sorts of ways it could be worse, but the dark times that God brings have a similar effect emotionally. They empty us of ourselves and bring us to the very end of ourselves emotionally. The circumstances can be different, but the effect is the same. We give up, lay down, and beg for help. That is just where He needs to take His children sometimes and He can use all degrees of suffering to take us to the same place over and over. Love Rebecca
